Main Street Today
Taneytown’s historic downtown district offers a diverse mix of businesses, a rich heritage of historical buildings and quaint architecture. Established in 1754, Taneytown held the encampments of General Mead for his Northern troops during the Civil war. Interested in history? – you will love the Historical Museum and self-guided or guided walking tours of downtown.
Our recent Streetscape Project has revitalized our downtown area and ultimately led to the creation of the Main Street Taneytown Advisory Committee. Please come visit our unique shops, grab a bite to eat one our restaurants, or just take a stroll through our many historical buildings. We look forward to seeing you.
Main Street Advisory Committee
Taneytown has much to offer! And the Main Street Taneytown Advisory Committee was created to spread the word. We are a group of dedicated individuals, some business owners, some retirees, some city employees, and some super volunteers, who share the desire to share all that Taneytown offers. The word is getting. Our Main Street Taneytown Facebook page is humming.
Most of us are also Taneytown Ambassadors, a group also dedicated to our town and actively meeting and greeting people on our streets. The Advisory Committee serves to promote the businesses and organizations of Taneytown and their activities, the economic development incentives offered by the city, as well as highlight success stories of the town’s residents, businesses, and government. We have created this website to serve as a hub for all that is happening. We envision its use as a two-way street. One on which our citizens, businesses, associations, schools, and local government can share ideas, post events, find resources, and encourage the patronage of our own proprietors. AND…..we welcome our out of town guests with a great “picture” of Taneytown.
